Abstract

The modern security environment is characterised by dynamism, complexity, and a high degree of uncertainty, which places increasing demands on the intellectual training of military personnel. In this context, the development of analytical competence among future officers during their professional training has become increasingly relevant. This article aims to substantiate the essence of analytical competence among future naval officers and to define its place within the structure of professional training at naval higher education institutions. To achieve this objective, a range of general scientific research methods were employed, including the analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, a comparative analysis of scientific approaches, theoretical generalisation, and logical-structural analysis.

The research found no consensus in the scientific literature on the interpretation of intellectual skills related to information analysis and managerial decision-making. The generalisation of scientific approaches has made it possible to consider the analytical competence of future Navy officers as an integrative characteristic of professional training, reflecting the ability to work systematically with information, to select, interpret, and critically evaluate it, to establish cause-and-effect relationships, forecast the development of a situation, and justify management decisions in the process of performing military-professional tasks.

It has been demonstrated that analytical competence plays a key role in the professional training of future officers, as it provides the intellectual foundation for their managerial activities. It is demonstrated that the specific nature of naval activities, linked to the dynamic maritime operational environment, the multifactorial nature of the operational situation,, and the need to process diverse information, places heightened demands on the development of officers’ analytical skills.

The pedagogical expediency of developing the analytical competence of future Navy officers during their studies at military higher education institutions has been demonstrated, as such skills require long-term educational influence, systematic practice in analysing professionally oriented situations, and the integration of analytical tools into the content of professional training.
