FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN’S TOY LIBRARIES IN THE WORLD DURING THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

The relevance of the study is due to the influence of various factors (social, biological, educational) on person’s development, involvement of various institutions, organizations and initiatives in activities in the education system, their educational and educational potential.
The purpose of the article is to reveal the formation and development of children’s toy libraries in the world during the 20thcentury.
The essence of children’s toy library is defined. It is a library of games and toys that provides children with play activities and organizes their intelligent entertainment. The main tasks of activities of children’s toy libraries are revealed. They are teaching and developing children through play activities, disseminating information about the importance of play for children’s development; providing parents, teachers, therapists and everyone who works with children with materials and information about child development; providing children of parents who do not have enough money with a variety of toys that they cannot afford to buy; providing parents and teachers with information about various games and toys so that they can decide whether it is worth buying a particular toy; providing therapeutic materials and play equipment for children with different abilities, especially those who need more complex adapted toys but may not have access to them; forming responsibility in children and adults through sharing, borrowing and recycling toys.
The origin and development of children’s toy libraries in different countries of the world (the USA, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, France, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Nigeria, India) are described. The prerequisites and features of the activities of toy libraries in each of these countries are determined. It is stated that in addition to the emergence and development of toy libraries in different countries of the world, the International Association of Toy Libraries (since 1987) and national associations of toy libraries were founded, as well as the regular international conferences on the activities of toy libraries were organized since 1967. The developmental and educational potential of children’s toy libraries, their importance for the dissemination of educational ideas and the development of the education system, as well as their dependence on the source of funding (state funding, public grants, charitable contributions from various organizations, private donations) are revealed.
