The article addresses the issue of preparing informatics teachers for the development of social competence in basic secondary school students. The relevance of developing social competence of students as an important component of modern education is substantiated. The potential of the school informatics subject for the development of students’ social competence has been analyzed. This potential is realized through the use of discussion-based methods, the organization of group and project work of students, involvement in extracurricular and out-of-school activities, and the use of didactic games. The effectiveness of the implementation of didactic potential directly depends on the level of the teacher’s professional preparation, their readiness for purposeful pedagogical influence and their awareness of the significance of social competence as an educational result. The importance of the teacher’s understanding of the essence and structure of social competence is emphasized, along with knowledge of the relevant methodology and the ability to implement discussion-based methods, project-based and group work, apply didactic games in computer science teaching, and involve students in extracurricular activities. Particular attention is paid to the role of digital tools in ensuring student interaction and creating conditions for the development of cooperation, communication and responsibility skills. The importance of the teacher’s psychological preparation is emphasized, in particular knowledge of the age-related characteristics of students and the ability to resolve conflicts constructively, and the capacity to provide unobtrusive pedagogical support.
